A hired waistcoat is paid for once and returned. A bespoke one is paid for once and kept, worn again at the next wedding, the next black-tie event, for as long as it fits. For a groom or a full wedding party across Sussex, that arithmetic changes once you’re outfitting more than one person for a single day. Dandylion Style hand-tailors bespoke wedding waistcoats from our Ardingly studio, built to be worn again, not returned on Monday. Enquire for pricing.

A hired waistcoat is sized to the nearest stock option and worn for a single day before going back. A bespoke waistcoat costs more upfront but is cut to fit and kept afterward.
For a groom outfitting himself plus several groomsmen, the comparison is between one hire fee per person, per event and one bespoke cost per person that doesn't recur at the next black-tie occasion, another wedding, or a formal work event.
4–6 months before the wedding, the colour scheme, cloth and budget are agreed with the groom, giving enough time to plan each waistcoat properly.
3–5 months before the wedding, each groomsman is measured individually, wherever they're based, so every waistcoat can be cut to the wearer rather than a standard stock size.
The first fitting takes place around 6–8 weeks before the wedding, with the fit checked across the full party together where possible. A final fitting follows 2–3 weeks before the wedding to account for travel and any body changes.
Waistcoats are collected ahead of the wedding week, leaving time to spare rather than cutting the process close to the wedding date.
Every two-piece suit is cut and fitted personally by Igor at the Ardingly studio, using British cloth chosen for how you'll actually wear it.

I have had the pleasure of working with Igor on several projects: reinventing a Ted Baker plain black coat with hot pink herringbone tweed (yes it’s as fabulous as it sounds); making a duplicate of an existing summer skirt but with bolder colours and heavier weight fabric; relining a plain H&M blazer to make it a statement piece; and various alterations and upgrades of Etsy vintage purchases. And there is always a little suggestion for “detail” here and there which really makes the difference. He is very client focused, open to new ideas, and his professionalism and the quality of work is to a very high standard, as it should be. He has a client base flung far and wide (UK, Europe, EMEA) so it’s always best to get in touch in advance to arrange appointment. And the tea and cake is always good.Posted on Google![]()

Igor has made a dress for my wife Wendy, and a three peice suit for myself, for our visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party. From our first phone call and subsequent visits to his shop, it was an amazing experience. He made my wife feel relaxed and confident that the dress would be what she wanted. My suit was a perfect fit, complete with matching tie and pocket square, the two shirts he made are a perfect fit. We both cannot thank Igor enough for a fantastic experience. Would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who wants bespoke tailor made suit or dress.Posted on Google![]()

My experience with Igor was first class and I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking to buy a bespoke suit. I have gone into more detail on my experience below. I was looking for a 3 piece suit for my wedding day and was originally looking to buy one off the rack, but hadn’t been able to find one that I was happy with the fit. I met Igor and told him what I was looking for and he very quickly narrowed down some materials for me and my partner to choose from that were within our budget. We went with the 3 piece suit, but Igor also made us a tie and pocket square out the same material as the waistcoat and also tailored a shirt I bought so that it fit me better. This was an unexpected benefit and it’s the best a shirt has fit me. I went in to see Igor a few times afterwards to check the fit of the suit and it was always a great experience. I don’t usually enjoy buying clothes but it was a pleasure dealing with Igor and I really enjoyed it. We’d just had out first child and Igor was so nice to him and accommodating of my now wife whilst she was feeding him etc. When I tried the suit on for the final time, I was so happy with what Igor had created. He bagged everything I’d need for the day in the suit bag and having a suit that looked brilliant and was made to make me look my best made the experience of having photos and videos taken that much better, I look forward to working with Igor again.Posted on Google![]()

Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended. I approached Igor for a bespoke 3 piece for my destination wedding and he did not disappoint. Consistent and reliable communication, even at weekends. He worked tirelessly to complete my suit for the deadline (with a number of alterations) and the result was immaculate finish, I could not have been more pleased. Thank you Igor!Posted on Google![]()

Well what can I say other than a wonderful experience! I needed a suit for my best friends wedding and as the Best Man decided to go all out as I just didn't have a suit that had ever worked for me. I showed Igor the styles I had in mind and we picked the fabrics. We discussed things and then he let loose. Igor is not only an amazingly creative person, but an extremely personable character. The prices might be slightly high for some, and I get that, but in all honesty you can see where the money goes. This is tailor made, not like the off the peg junk. I have a 50' chest and I'm only 5ft 10 with a 14 inch drop. It you're athletically built, off the peg suits just don't work. This whole experience was amazing and at the end of it I feel I have made a life long friend as well. Just treat yourself peeps and speak to Igor. Thank you, thank you, thank you Igor, you're a star !!!!!Posted on Google![]()

Hiring costs less per event but recurs every time; buying bespoke costs more upfront but isn't a recurring cost, since each waistcoat is kept and can be worn again. For a party of several groomsmen, it's worth comparing total hire cost against a one-off bespoke cost before deciding.
Start 4 to 6 months out, with measurements taken 3 to 5 months before the date and a final fitting 2 to 3 weeks out. This leaves room for cloth availability and for any changes in the party's availability or measurements.
Yes, Dandylion Style measures each groomsman individually, at our Ardingly studio, via a visiting appointment across Sussex, or through a virtual consultation for anyone travelling in only for the wedding itself.
he final fitting, scheduled 2 to 3 weeks out, is built into the timeline specifically to catch this, giving time for a last adjustment without rushing it in the final days before the date.
Usually yes, upfront, since a bespoke waistcoat is cut individually and kept rather than returned. Whether it's better value depends on how many more times it's likely to be worn afterward, a black-tie event, another wedding, or work.
