Around a third of UK clothing buyers, 33% in the same Mintel research, say they sometimes need something altered after buying it, and jackets and coats are where that shows up hardest: sleeve length and hem are usually fixable, but a shoulder that doesn’t sit right often isn’t. Dandylion Style carries out jacket and coat alterations in West Sussex from our Ardingly studio, on suit jackets, blazers, and heavier wool and tweed winter coats. Enquire for pricing.
Two-piece bespoke suit
First fitting to finished garment
Ardingly studio or visiting
Usually straightforward. Standard seam allowance in the cuff on most jackets and coats
Usually straightforward. Reasonable seam allowance in most constructions
Often achievable. Depends how much fabric was left in the side seams at construction
Sometimes achievable. Can require partial re-cutting of the collar, not always worth the cost
Rarely fully fixable. Shoulder shape is set at the pattern stage; genuinely correcting it usually means re-cutting the garment
A wool or tweed overcoat behaves differently under the needle than a lightweight suit jacket.
Every two-piece suit is cut and fitted personally by Igor at the Ardingly studio, using British cloth chosen for how you'll actually wear it.

I have had the pleasure of working with Igor on several projects: reinventing a Ted Baker plain black coat with hot pink herringbone tweed (yes it’s as fabulous as it sounds); making a duplicate of an existing summer skirt but with bolder colours and heavier weight fabric; relining a plain H&M blazer to make it a statement piece; and various alterations and upgrades of Etsy vintage purchases. And there is always a little suggestion for “detail” here and there which really makes the difference. He is very client focused, open to new ideas, and his professionalism and the quality of work is to a very high standard, as it should be. He has a client base flung far and wide (UK, Europe, EMEA) so it’s always best to get in touch in advance to arrange appointment. And the tea and cake is always good.Posted on Google![]()

Igor has made a dress for my wife Wendy, and a three peice suit for myself, for our visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party. From our first phone call and subsequent visits to his shop, it was an amazing experience. He made my wife feel relaxed and confident that the dress would be what she wanted. My suit was a perfect fit, complete with matching tie and pocket square, the two shirts he made are a perfect fit. We both cannot thank Igor enough for a fantastic experience. Would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who wants bespoke tailor made suit or dress.Posted on Google![]()

My experience with Igor was first class and I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking to buy a bespoke suit. I have gone into more detail on my experience below. I was looking for a 3 piece suit for my wedding day and was originally looking to buy one off the rack, but hadn’t been able to find one that I was happy with the fit. I met Igor and told him what I was looking for and he very quickly narrowed down some materials for me and my partner to choose from that were within our budget. We went with the 3 piece suit, but Igor also made us a tie and pocket square out the same material as the waistcoat and also tailored a shirt I bought so that it fit me better. This was an unexpected benefit and it’s the best a shirt has fit me. I went in to see Igor a few times afterwards to check the fit of the suit and it was always a great experience. I don’t usually enjoy buying clothes but it was a pleasure dealing with Igor and I really enjoyed it. We’d just had out first child and Igor was so nice to him and accommodating of my now wife whilst she was feeding him etc. When I tried the suit on for the final time, I was so happy with what Igor had created. He bagged everything I’d need for the day in the suit bag and having a suit that looked brilliant and was made to make me look my best made the experience of having photos and videos taken that much better, I look forward to working with Igor again.Posted on Google![]()

Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended. I approached Igor for a bespoke 3 piece for my destination wedding and he did not disappoint. Consistent and reliable communication, even at weekends. He worked tirelessly to complete my suit for the deadline (with a number of alterations) and the result was immaculate finish, I could not have been more pleased. Thank you Igor!Posted on Google![]()

Well what can I say other than a wonderful experience! I needed a suit for my best friends wedding and as the Best Man decided to go all out as I just didn't have a suit that had ever worked for me. I showed Igor the styles I had in mind and we picked the fabrics. We discussed things and then he let loose. Igor is not only an amazingly creative person, but an extremely personable character. The prices might be slightly high for some, and I get that, but in all honesty you can see where the money goes. This is tailor made, not like the off the peg junk. I have a 50' chest and I'm only 5ft 10 with a 14 inch drop. It you're athletically built, off the peg suits just don't work. This whole experience was amazing and at the end of it I feel I have made a life long friend as well. Just treat yourself peeps and speak to Igor. Thank you, thank you, thank you Igor, you're a star !!!!!Posted on Google![]()

Great tailor. Very helpful, great organisation and helpful. Also gives good advice. Professional. Highest quality craft. Able to accommodate times to our busy working schedules. Managed to tailor an authentic 1940s suit in one week. Very happy with the job :) Would recommend 10/10 to anyone.Posted on Google![]()

Sleeve length, hem, and chest or waist suppression are the most reliably achievable adjustments. These involve working within existing seam allowances rather than re-cutting the garment, which is why they're quicker and less expensive than shoulder or collar work.
Rarely, and only to a limited degree, since shoulder shape is set when the garment is originally cut. A shoulder that's genuinely too wide or narrow usually can't be corrected without re-cutting the whole jacket, so Igor will tell you honestly at consultation whether it's worth attempting or whether a different jacket is the better answer.
Cost depends on which adjustment is needed, with sleeve or hem work costing less than chest suppression or collar changes. Heavier winter coats can also take slightly longer to alter than lightweight jackets because of the cloth weight, and Igor gives an exact price once he's assessed the garment at our Ardingly studio.
Yes, though heavier wool and tweed coats need a steadier hand, since thick cloth shows uneven stitching more than lightweight suiting. The same hand-finishing approach applies to both, adjusted for the cloth's weight and how much interlining the coat was built with.
Yes, if the issue is sleeve length, hem or moderate waist suppression, since these are proportionate in cost to a new garment. If the shoulder doesn't fit, altering usually isn't worth it, and a bespoke or made-to-measure jacket, built to your shoulder line from the start, is the better long-term investment.
