In a widely cited Mintel study of UK shoppers, 43% of people who returned an item bought online named poor fit as the reason, and trousers are usually the worst offender: the waist fits, the length doesn’t, or the leg tapers wrong the moment you sit down. Dandylion Style offers trouser alterations in West Sussex from our Ardingly studio, hand-finishing hem, waist, seat and taper on bespoke and off-the-peg trousers alike. Enquire for pricing.

By far the most common request. Master tailor Igor checks your break with the shoes you'll actually wear, since trouser length that looks right in trainers sits wrong with a formal shoe. A clean hem takes one fitting in most cases.
Off-the-peg trousers are sized to a single waist measurement that ignores seat and thigh, which is why a waist that fits can still gape or pull. Taking in or letting out the waist, within the seam allowance the trousers were cut with, corrects this without touching the rest of the garment.
A slimmer or straighter leg line, tapered gradually from knee to hem so the trouser still moves properly when you walk, rather than pinching at the ankle. This is one of the more involved trouser alterations and is priced accordingly.
The seat is where alterations quietly go wrong elsewhere: take in too much and the trousers pull across the back when you sit. Igor checks seat fit seated as well as standing before pinning anything.
The point where the hem meets the shoe, whether you want no break, a slight break, or a full break. This is a hemming job in most cases, though it sometimes needs pairing with a taper to look right.
Letting a waist out beyond the seam allowance, or narrowing a leg cut wide through the thigh, isn't always achievable without the proportions looking wrong.
Every two-piece suit is cut and fitted personally by Igor at the Ardingly studio, using British cloth chosen for how you'll actually wear it.

I have had the pleasure of working with Igor on several projects: reinventing a Ted Baker plain black coat with hot pink herringbone tweed (yes it’s as fabulous as it sounds); making a duplicate of an existing summer skirt but with bolder colours and heavier weight fabric; relining a plain H&M blazer to make it a statement piece; and various alterations and upgrades of Etsy vintage purchases. And there is always a little suggestion for “detail” here and there which really makes the difference. He is very client focused, open to new ideas, and his professionalism and the quality of work is to a very high standard, as it should be. He has a client base flung far and wide (UK, Europe, EMEA) so it’s always best to get in touch in advance to arrange appointment. And the tea and cake is always good.Posted on Google![]()

Igor has made a dress for my wife Wendy, and a three peice suit for myself, for our visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party. From our first phone call and subsequent visits to his shop, it was an amazing experience. He made my wife feel relaxed and confident that the dress would be what she wanted. My suit was a perfect fit, complete with matching tie and pocket square, the two shirts he made are a perfect fit. We both cannot thank Igor enough for a fantastic experience. Would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who wants bespoke tailor made suit or dress.Posted on Google![]()

My experience with Igor was first class and I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking to buy a bespoke suit. I have gone into more detail on my experience below. I was looking for a 3 piece suit for my wedding day and was originally looking to buy one off the rack, but hadn’t been able to find one that I was happy with the fit. I met Igor and told him what I was looking for and he very quickly narrowed down some materials for me and my partner to choose from that were within our budget. We went with the 3 piece suit, but Igor also made us a tie and pocket square out the same material as the waistcoat and also tailored a shirt I bought so that it fit me better. This was an unexpected benefit and it’s the best a shirt has fit me. I went in to see Igor a few times afterwards to check the fit of the suit and it was always a great experience. I don’t usually enjoy buying clothes but it was a pleasure dealing with Igor and I really enjoyed it. We’d just had out first child and Igor was so nice to him and accommodating of my now wife whilst she was feeding him etc. When I tried the suit on for the final time, I was so happy with what Igor had created. He bagged everything I’d need for the day in the suit bag and having a suit that looked brilliant and was made to make me look my best made the experience of having photos and videos taken that much better, I look forward to working with Igor again.Posted on Google![]()

Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended. I approached Igor for a bespoke 3 piece for my destination wedding and he did not disappoint. Consistent and reliable communication, even at weekends. He worked tirelessly to complete my suit for the deadline (with a number of alterations) and the result was immaculate finish, I could not have been more pleased. Thank you Igor!Posted on Google![]()

Well what can I say other than a wonderful experience! I needed a suit for my best friends wedding and as the Best Man decided to go all out as I just didn't have a suit that had ever worked for me. I showed Igor the styles I had in mind and we picked the fabrics. We discussed things and then he let loose. Igor is not only an amazingly creative person, but an extremely personable character. The prices might be slightly high for some, and I get that, but in all honesty you can see where the money goes. This is tailor made, not like the off the peg junk. I have a 50' chest and I'm only 5ft 10 with a 14 inch drop. It you're athletically built, off the peg suits just don't work. This whole experience was amazing and at the end of it I feel I have made a life long friend as well. Just treat yourself peeps and speak to Igor. Thank you, thank you, thank you Igor, you're a star !!!!!Posted on Google![]()

Cost depends on which adjustment you need, with a hem costing less than a waist take-in or a full taper. A straightforward hem is the cheapest and quickest trouser alteration, while tapering the leg or adjusting the seat takes more time and is priced once Igor has assessed the trousers at your Ardingly consultation.
Only within the seam allowance the trousers were originally cut with, which varies by brand and price point. Cheaper off-the-peg trousers are often cut with minimal seam allowance, leaving little room to let out the waist, while better-made trousers, bespoke or off-the-peg, usually allow more movement in both directions.
A hem or simple waist adjustment is often ready within a few days to a week. More involved work, like tapering a leg or correcting the seat, can take longer and sometimes benefits from a second fitting to get the proportions right before the final press.
Yes, in most cases, since this is usually a hem-length and taper issue rather than a structural one. Bring the shoes you'll actually wear with the trousers to your Ardingly consultation, since break is judged against the shoe, not the trouser alone.
Usually yes, if the issue is length, waist or a mild taper, since these are quick, inexpensive fixes compared to replacing the garment. If the trousers are cut wide through the thigh or seat and you want a genuinely slim silhouette, a made-to-measure or bespoke pair will usually give a better result than pushing an alteration past what the cloth allows.
