WEDDING DRESS ALTERATIONS West Sussex

Why do most wedding dresses need altering, even when bought in your exact size? Because dress sizing is standardised, and no two brides are built to a standard. Dandylion Style offers wedding dress alterations in West Sussex from our Ardingly studio, hand-finishing hems, bust, sleeves and bodice fit with the same care Igor brings to bespoke tailoring. How It's Made

    1

    The Consultation

Every wedding dress alteration in West Sussex starts with you wearing the dress in for master tailor Igor to assess, ideally with the shoes and undergarments you'll wear on the day. Visit our Ardingly studio to begin.

    2

    The Cloth

Igor checks the bodice, bust, waist and hem against how the dress actually sits, identifying what needs adjusting and what the fabric and construction will allow. Delicate fabrics like lace and silk need particular care here.

    3

    The Details

The dress is pinned directly on you, marking exactly where the bodice, straps or hem need to move. This is done to your posture and shape on the day, not a generic size chart.

    4

    The Measurements

Hand-finished stitching adjusts hem length, bust and waist fit, strap position and bustle where needed, treating delicate wedding fabrics, lace, silk, beading, with the same patience as bespoke suit work.

    5

    The Making

A careful press and final check resets the fabric after alteration, so the dress hangs and moves the way it should, with no sign of rework visible in photos.

    6

    The Fitting

A final fitting confirms fit before collection, timed close enough to the wedding that your body hasn't changed, but early enough to leave room for last adjustments. Leave the Ardingly studio with a dress that fits exactly as it should.

I have had the pleasure of working with Igor on several projects: reinventing a Ted Baker plain black coat with hot pink herringbone tweed (yes it’s as fabulous as it sounds); making a duplicate of an existing summer skirt but with bolder colours and heavier weight fabric; relining a plain H&M blazer to make it a statement piece; and various alterations and upgrades of Etsy vintage purchases. And there is always a little suggestion for “detail” here and there which really makes the difference. He is very client focused, open to new ideas, and his professionalism and the quality of work is to a very high standard, as it should be. He has a client base flung far and wide (UK, Europe, EMEA) so it’s always best to get in touch in advance to arrange appointment. And the tea and cake is always good.

Igor has made a dress for my wife Wendy, and a three peice suit for myself, for our visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party. From our first phone call and subsequent visits to his shop, it was an amazing experience. He made my wife feel relaxed and confident that the dress would be what she wanted. My suit was a perfect fit, complete with matching tie and pocket square, the two shirts he made are a perfect fit. We both cannot thank Igor enough for a fantastic experience. Would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who wants bespoke tailor made suit or dress.

My experience with Igor was first class and I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking to buy a bespoke suit. I have gone into more detail on my experience below. I was looking for a 3 piece suit for my wedding day and was originally looking to buy one off the rack, but hadn’t been able to find one that I was happy with the fit. I met Igor and told him what I was looking for and he very quickly narrowed down some materials for me and my partner to choose from that were within our budget. We went with the 3 piece suit, but Igor also made us a tie and pocket square out the same material as the waistcoat and also tailored a shirt I bought so that it fit me better. This was an unexpected benefit and it’s the best a shirt has fit me. I went in to see Igor a few times afterwards to check the fit of the suit and it was always a great experience. I don’t usually enjoy buying clothes but it was a pleasure dealing with Igor and I really enjoyed it. We’d just had out first child and Igor was so nice to him and accommodating of my now wife whilst she was feeding him etc. When I tried the suit on for the final time, I was so happy with what Igor had created. He bagged everything I’d need for the day in the suit bag and having a suit that looked brilliant and was made to make me look my best made the experience of having photos and videos taken that much better, I look forward to working with Igor again.

Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended. I approached Igor for a bespoke 3 piece for my destination wedding and he did not disappoint. Consistent and reliable communication, even at weekends. He worked tirelessly to complete my suit for the deadline (with a number of alterations) and the result was immaculate finish, I could not have been more pleased. Thank you Igor!

Well what can I say other than a wonderful experience! I needed a suit for my best friends wedding and as the Best Man decided to go all out as I just didn't have a suit that had ever worked for me. I showed Igor the styles I had in mind and we picked the fabrics. We discussed things and then he let loose. Igor is not only an amazingly creative person, but an extremely personable character. The prices might be slightly high for some, and I get that, but in all honesty you can see where the money goes. This is tailor made, not like the off the peg junk. I have a 50' chest and I'm only 5ft 10 with a 14 inch drop. It you're athletically built, off the peg suits just don't work. This whole experience was amazing and at the end of it I feel I have made a life long friend as well. Just treat yourself peeps and speak to Igor. Thank you, thank you, thank you Igor, you're a star !!!!!

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Explore answers to the most common questions about our bespoke tailoring services, ensuring you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Start alterations 2 to 3 months before the wedding, with a final fitting closer to the date. This allows time for delicate fabric work like lace, beading and boning, plus a final fitting a few weeks out once your body and posture are settled for the day.

Hemming, bust and waist take-in, and strap or bodice adjustment are the most common. Even a dress bought in your exact size usually needs a hem adjusted for your specific shoes and a bodice take-in, since dress sizing rarely accounts for individual posture and proportions.

Cost depends on the alterations needed and the dress's fabric and construction. A straightforward hem costs less than bust or bodice reshaping on structured, boned or heavily beaded fabric, and Igor gives an exact price once he's assessed the dress at your Ardingly consultation.

Yes, but they require more time and a more careful hand than standard fabric. Hand-finished alteration work protects lace, beading and silk from the stress that machine-only alterations can put on delicate wedding fabric, which is why we build extra time into these fittings.

A final fitting closer to the date accounts for this, so the dress is adjusted last. Booking your final wedding dress alteration fitting a few weeks before the day, rather than months out, means the dress is fitted to your body as it actually is on the wedding day.
